Our Story

Sarah Austin has always had a deep passion for designing and crafting unique, meaningful pieces. Her creative journey began in childhood, when she would transform her grandmother’s vintage jewelry and hand-collected stones into beautiful handmade treasures.

After spending 15 years as a buyer for department and specialty stores, Sarah took a leap of faith and turned her dream into reality. In early 2012, she founded Fig Tree Accessories, inspired by the majestic fig tree in Balboa Park, San Diego—a beloved place where she and her husband spent many summers with their three children.

What started with local markets and home shows quickly blossomed. By September 2012, Sarah launched the Fig Tree website, and by spring 2013, the brand began supplying retailers. Just four years later, in 2017, Fig Tree Accessories could be found in over 150 stores, including the prestigious Four Seasons Boutiques. That same year, Sarah introduced a signature handbag line, further expanding the brand’s unique offering.

In 2017, Sarah opened the first Fig Tree retail store in Houston’s Rice Village. As the business continued to grow, so did the need for space—and by 2020, Fig Tree had outgrown its original location and proudly moved to its current home at 2405 Rice Blvd, Houston, TX 77005.

Today, Fig Tree Accessories is known for its handcrafted jewelry, featuring vibrant semi-precious stones and delicate designs that capture a whimsical, bohemian-chic spirit. The handbag collection includes artisan pieces made from leather, python, and cowhide, often adorned with agates, tassels, and other one-of-a-kind details. Fig Tree has also curated a lineup of complementary brands, including THML, PINCH, VOY, Grade & Gather, Lovestitch, and Latico Handbags.

At the heart of it all is Sarah’s mission: to create joyful, expressive pieces that reflect the beauty of nature and the remarkable women who have shaped her life.
